At Hobb Computer Services Ltd, we believe in the power of community and the importance of nurturing the next generation of innovators. That’s why we are thrilled to partner with KMF Group to support our local Staffordshire and Cheshire schools in an exciting Greenpower Education Trust challenge. This initiative aims to inspire young minds by engaging them in the design and construction of an electric car, which will then compete in a thrilling race at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.
Our commitment to the local community is unwavering, and we are particularly proud to support St. Margaret Ward Catholic Academy in this endeavour. By participating in this challenge, students have the unique opportunity to apply their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) in a practical and exciting way.
STEM activities like the Greenpower challenge are crucial in inspiring young people to pursue careers in these fields. By working on real-world projects, students can see the tangible impact of their efforts, fostering a sense of accomplishment and a passion for innovation. The process of designing, building, and racing an electric car not only enhances their technical skills but also teaches valuable lessons in teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance. This hands-on experience is invaluable in preparing them for future careers in STEM, where they can continue to innovate and drive progress.
On September 18th 2024, all the hard work of the students came to fruition as we headed to Mallory Park for the race day. The top priority for the day is ensuring safety. Every car must pass a thorough safety inspection before being approved for track day. Great news—’Metal Maggie’ has been cleared to participate 😊
The students started with practice laps to get used to the conditions and calm their nerves. The best track time was 3 minutes and 23.972 seconds.
In the first race of the day (F24), the team completed 21 laps on the 1-mile track with a best time of 2 minutes and 46.500 seconds. Significant improvement 😊
After lunch, the team performed a quick battery check and tyre inflation to get ready for the second and final race of the day. Personally, I think the lead car had a bit of an unfair advantage….
Experience made a difference here, with the team successfully completing 27 laps and achieving a best time of 2 minutes 42.806 seconds. A notable improvement 😊
The event turned out to be a tremendous success, and all the students, sponsors and teachers thoroughly enjoyed their day.
At Hobb Computer Services Ltd, we are dedicated to supporting educational initiatives that empower young people and contribute to the advancement of our community. We hope that through these challenges, we can inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators to reach their full potential and make a positive impact.
Huge thanks to everyone involved that made this possible. We are already looking forward to the next event.
