Rural Broadband via Starlink

In today’s digital age, reliable and high-speed internet connectivity is happily accessible for most. However, for those living in rural areas, access to fast and stable broadband has been a long-standing challenge. Fortunately, Starlink Internet is the game changer to revolutionize rural connectivity.

Starlink is a large constellation of satellites launched by SpaceX, with the goal of providing internet access to people all over the world, especially those in areas that are unserved by high speed internet connectivity.

Unlike traditional satellite internet that uses geostationary satellites (high orbit), Starlink uses low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. This means the satellites are much closer to Earth (around 550km vs 35,786km), resulting in ‘Lower Latency’ which translates to faster response times, making activities like remote working and video calls more feasible.

How does that help me?

If you live or work in a rural setting then you will already know and feel the challenges that low internet speeds bring. Most rural locations are only capable of legacy ADSL connections or at best 4G Wi-Fi connections. With speeds this low, efficient working via Microsoft Teams or streaming media services are ‘laggy’ at best.

With a Starlink installation, you or your business will benefit from:

  • Downloads: 73 to 184 Mbps (majority of users experience over 100 Mbps)
  • Uploads: 12 to 23 Mbps
  • Latency: 28 to 39 ms

With these speeds you can comfortably stream media services and work effectively from home.

To check your expected speeds, please enter your address details at the Starlink site.

What does it look like?

Here at Hobb we have successfully installed a number of Starlink solutions in both residential settings and rural businesses. Some examples of past installations include:

Rural Starlink at a business
Residential Starlink

How do I get it?

The service is available to purchase direct from the Starlink website. Based on a monthly subscription; there are a number of options available that we can happily guide you through.

Once you have received your equipment, our engineers can deploy and configure the solution on your behalf. To hear more about Starlink or any of our other products/services, please get in touch via hello@hobb.co.uk or by simply calling 01782 566888.
